Part 1: Year 3 Class Y, Mr. Nyanpachi: Episode 5
Another short episode about the Yo-kai attending high school, this one focuses on “graduation.” Jibanyan says it’s time for everyone to graduate, but the other Yo-kai are a little confused and think it’s too early. Despite that, Jibanyan assigns his student Yo-kai a graduation essay so they can reflect on their memories of high school.
A while later, Jibanyan is surveying the classroom, noticing all his students are taking a long time to finish their essays… or so he thinks. Actually, all the Yo-kai are just drawing random pictures of things. This causes Jibanyan to snap, but fortunately Komasan is there to restrain him before anyone gets hurt.
The second part of the short is “Theory on Graduation.” Jibanyan is sitting in the faculty room with Grapenyan, and similar to his encounters with other fruit-themed cat Yo-kai, Grapenyan is eating grapes as he talks. Jibanyan can hardly pay attention to what Grapenyan is saying because of how odd it is to see him eating grapes.
The final part of the episode continues the “graduation” theme. All of the Yo-kai graduating are up on a stage and talking about their memories of high school. Most of the Yo-kai talk about heartwarming and common high-school experiences, but Roughraff keeps talking about destroying buildings and causing general mayhem. Eventually Roughraff lets it slip that they stuck a drawing on Jibanyan’s back, which infuriates Jibanyan once again. However, the graduating Yo-kai planned for this, and dug a pitfall trap for Jibanyan to fall into as a “senior prank.” Later, after Jibanyan has recovered from their “prank”, it seems like the other Yo-kai are about to show their appreciation for Jibanyan… but they all race right past him and instead start fawning over Komasan instead. Naturally, Jibanyan snaps and becomes infuriated once more.
Part 2: The Amano House: The House Cleaning War!
Nate’s parents are heading out to do some shopping for New Years. Surprisingly, Nate says he’ll take care of the house cleaning while they’re out. Even Whisper thinks this is out of character for Nate, and he prods some fun at Nate by imitating the way Nate always blames weird happenings on Yo-kai. However, Nate’s motivations this time are very concrete: He wants to clean up the house so his parents will give him more money for his New Year’s present.
Whisper and Jibanyan think they’re off the hook for cleaning, but Nate ropes them in too, since they are residents of his house, after all. Just then, the trio hears an odd horn being blown, like a call to battle. Suddenly the front door bursts open and hundreds of shadowy figures stream into Nate’s house.
At first Nate doesn’t see anything but after scanning the living room with the Yo-kai Watch, Washogun and many Brushido appear, lined up for battle! Washogun is a lord of cleaning, dedicated to cleaning everything, and the Brushido are his loyal foot soldiers in the “cleaning war.” Washogun gives Nate a heavy-handed lecture on New Years’ cleaning, which makes Nate realize that Washogun and his footsoldiers are actually going to do the cleaning for him.
Overjoyed that he doesn’t have to lift a finger, Nate welcomes the shogun and his army to clean his house. They set to cleaning the kitchen, the bathroom, and eventually every room in the house. After the job is seemingly done, a wounded footsoldier comes to report to Washogun that the kitchen and bathroom are dirty again.
They rush upstairs to find that an enemy army of Chirakashikerai are making a mess of the house again! Washogun quickly points out that all of the Chirakashikerai are coming in and out of Nate’s room, meaning the enemy commander is in there too. Nate decides to help out Washogun, so he summons Jibanyan using the Yo-kai Watch.
However as soon as Jibanyan is summoned, he starts throwing chocolate bar wrappers all over the floor, making a mess. Nate realizes this means that before he was summoned, Jibanyan was making a mess in Nate’s room—and Washogun realizes that Jibanyan is the enemy commander. However, this surprises even Jibanyan, as he wasn’t even aware that the Chirakashikerai had elected him as their leader. Nevertheless, the two armies clash in a decisive battle, and the episode ends as Nate’s parents return home… and poor Jibanyan is ejected out of the house’s roof.
Part 3: The Wandering Venoct: Act 1: The Strongest Red Yo-kai
A mysterious Yo-kai is flying over Springdale at night, finally landing on a building. It’s hunting another Yo-kai, apparently named “Red J.” Before we can find out more, the scene switches to Nate walking home with a bunch of snacks for New Years. However, Jibanyan can’t wait, and snatches up a bunch of Nate’s chocolate bars before dashing off.
Jibanyan sits down by the riverbed to enjoy his chocolate bar, and as Nate and Whisper are catching up to him, they spot the mysterious Yo-kai from before up in the sky. It suddenly lands next to Jibanyan, revealing his name to be Venoct. Venoct is looking for the strongest Yo-kai, said to be living in Springdale.
Jibanyan has no idea what Venoct is talking about, so Venoct provides more information: apparently, the Yo-kai he seeks died in the Springdale area and became an earthbound spirit… not unlike Jibanyan. This Yo-kai has a deep-red body, a piece of his ear missing, and lives together with a human… exactly like Jibanyan.
Still totally oblivious to what’s happening, Jibanyan continues munching on his chocolate bar. Venoct continues, stating that the Yo-kai he seeks, known as Red J, is well-known for “slaughtering machines” over and over—just like how Jibanyan tries to beat up trucks. Red J’s signature technique is a series of rapid punches, and he also eats things that sound suspiciously similar to chocolate bars.
Despite all this, Jibanyan is barely even paying attention. Fortunately, Venoct doesn’t seem to notice Jibanyan’s similarities either, apologizing briskly before he dashes off into the sky again. Nate and Whisper breathe a sigh of relief—but it is the last they’ll see of Venoct?
