Yo-kai Watch Episode 49 is an episode of Yo-kai Watch Anime. It consists of Christmas Is Also Full of Yo-kai!, This Year's Santa is Koma-Santa and Yo-kai Santakurōsh stories.

Part 1: Christmas Is Also Full of Yo-kai!

Nate’s mom sends him out for pick up a Christmas cake for her, and on his way there he spots a pair of cleats in a store window that he’d really like as a Christmas present. This gets him wondering what Yo-kai do for Christmas, but the answer isn’t quite what he expected—Whisper is cowering in fear, explaining that due to Christmas being a holy holiday, Yo-kai can easily be exorcised just by the presence of various Christmas-themed decorations.

Whisper is almost exorcised by a Christmas tree star, but fortunately Nate grabs him in time to save him. Later, Whisper and Nate pass by a couple who seem to be enjoying a romantic evening, before they suddenly start fighting over nothing. Nate thinks their sudden quarrel is suspicious, checking with the Yo-kai Watch to reveal Dismarelda and Happierre enjoying the Christmas atmosphere together. Happierre’s presence quickly ends the couple’s fight, and Nate is now suspicious of Whisper’s claim that Christmas is dangerous for Yo-kai.

Nate later sees plenty of Yo-kai out and about enjoying the winter weather, eventually running into Jibanyan who is all dressed up and really getting into the spirit of the season. Whisper gets on Jibanyan’s case, but then Whisper almost gets exorcised again by the wreath Jibanyan is carrying around with him.

After Whisper recovers from almost being exorcised yet again, Nate is finally picking up the cake his mom sent him out to get—but he suddenly notices a bite has been taken out of it. It’s none other than Grubsnitch behind this cake catastrophe, prompting Nate to complain about all the Yo-kai out on Christmas… as Whisper floats away to Heaven again.

Part 2: This Year's Santa is Koma-Santa

Komasan and Komajiro have been selected as this year’s Santa Claus by the Yo-kai Committee. Komasan doesn’t even know what that means, but Komajiro offers a helpful explanation for his bumpkin brother. The brothers have been elected to act as Santa’s helpers, and deliver presents within the town in his place. Komajiro also points out that if they don’t help out, all the kids in the town will be disappointed because they didn’t get any presents.

Wasting no time at all, the Koma brothers don their Santa outfits and set to work on delivering good cheer and presents to all the kids in the town. However, Komajiro also notes they’re working on a limited time budget, so they need to hurry. Komasan reads a manual on how they’re supposed to behave as Santa Claus, and quickly runs into a problem: to imitate Santa they need to go down a chimney, but some of the houses don’t have a chimney.

That doesn’t stop Komasan, as he spots an air conditioning exhaust fan with steam coming out of it, and assumes it’s a chimney. Komajiro tries to stop his brother, but it’s too late and his brother has leaped straight into it—fortunately, all it does is spin Komasan around until he’s dizzy. Komajiro takes the direct approach and goes through the front door, but Komasan, still dizzy, staggers in after him and starts knocking things over. Luckily Komajiro is there to catch things before they break, and the brothers successfully infiltrate the house. They make their way up to the room of a little girl who is fast asleep, leave her a teddy bear, and leave. After that, the brothers get lost and come to a fork in the road. They have to decide which way to go, so Komasan uses an old-fashioned method involving a stick, but Komajiro’s GPS tells him that Komasan’s going the wrong way, so he quickly fools his older brother into going the right way.

Sometime later, the Koma brothers are halfway through their job, and Komajiro is exhausted from putting up with his brother’s misadventures. Realizing that they won’t make it in time at their current rate, Komajiro suggests they split the work in half to cover more ground faster. Komasan agrees, but Komajiro has made sure that he does most of the work while his bumbling brother only has a few things to deliver. The two Koma brothers dutifully deliver their gifts, but Komajiro has one last gift on his mind, for someone very special. Komasan is lying on a park bench, totally exhausted from delivering his share of the gifts. Then, Komajiro shows up in a taxi—and Komasan scolds him at first for “cheating”, but then Komajiro reveals that the final gift is for Komasan, and if he hadn’t taken a taxi, he wouldn’t have been able to make it in time before the store closed.

On the verge of tears, Komajiro thinks Komasan won’t want his present now, but Komasan reassures his brother and accepts his gift—a stylish coin pouch! The story ends happily with the two brothers holding hands as they head back home together.

Part 3: Yo-kai Ol' Saint Trick

Picking up from the first part of the episode, Nate is back home with the cake now—but his mother suddenly starts acting bizarre, offering him “three choices” for dinner. Nate and his mom momentarily transition to a bizarre gameshow-like scene, but fortunately Nate guesses correctly that his mom has made fried chicken for dinner.

Despite having answered correctly, Nate is still suspicious that a Yo-kai is making his mom act weird, and once again his theory is proven correct when the Yo-kai Watch reveals Ol’ Saint Trick! Nate has no time to even react before Ol’ Saint Trick has presented him with another multiple-choice question, this time about Ol’ Saint Trick’s identity. Fortunately Whisper’s got the right answer.

It’s not long before Ol’ Saint Trick is throwing another question at them, this time about “the most popular butler in the Yo-kai World.” Whisper answers the question incorrectly and gets sucked into one of Ol’ Saint Trick’s bags—and the next question is “which bag is Whisper in?” Jibanyan answers wrong this time and is sucked into one of the other bags.

The next question is a tough one for Nate: he has to pick between Whisper, Jibanyan and the cleats he wanted from the store earlier. He can only pick one, and he picks the cleats. Because Nate was honest about what he wanted, Ol’ Saint Trick gives him back Whisper and Jibanyan instead… even though he really just wanted the cleats.

Whisper and Jibanyan are understandably miffed about Nate choosing a pair of shoes over them, but before they can exact their revenge, Nate’s parents show up with gifts. They got him a soccer ball, a uniform, and one last present from his grandma. Nate thinks it’s going to be the cleats, but… it’s just a decorative diorama. The episode concludes with a happy montage of every person and Yo-kai in town enjoying Christmas together, ending on Nate in his bed with a sparkly new pair of cleats next to him, from Santa.
