Trivia

Origin

Singcada has similar origins to Cadin, but its Japanese name instead refers to the higurashi (the Tanna Japonensis, also called "evening cicada"). Unlike its cousins, who are most active during summer, its song is heard the most in autumn and late summer, especially when the sun has set or clouds darken the sky. Its melancholic "kana kana" cry fueled the inspiration of writers and poets, and it's a recurring sound in the visual novel series Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.

Name Origin

  • "Singcada" is a portmanteau of sing (or singer) and cicada. "Higurashimaru" adds the old-fashioned -maru suffix typical of boy names to higurashi.
