Yo-kai Watch 1 Game Information

Tengu and Flengu are arguably the best Elemental attackers in the game. Both of them have abilities that greatly increases the damage of their Soultimate and Element attacks, and on top of that they have exclusive use of the Tengu Fan. They are also from the Mystery tribe, which gives them a Spirit bonus when they are next to each other in battle. I think the sickest part about them is that they also have such high attack stats and good enough basic moves that they can double as mixed attackers. Since they are so versatile, there are a lot of attitudes that you can train them with. Logical and Brainy are the obvious choices. Flengu can also make good use of Twisted and Cruel attitudes. Feel free to train them in HP or Defense as well, since the Tengu Fan automatically makes their Spirit and Speed stat good enough to still compete with all the best Spirit attackers.

• Rarely at Moonlight Pass in Blossom Heights in trees during daytime.

• Tip: The 2 trees are along the road just north of the Temple.

Appearance

Like Tengu, Flengu has wild shaggy hair that trail down to his feet, carries a leaf fan, and has tengu-geta on his feet. His hakama is colored blue, his shirt lavender-ish in hue, and his skin a dark tan in hue.

Trivia

Origin

Flengu's fire alignment and tendency for punishing humanity might be a reference to karura, a humanoid bird creature related to the Hindu legendary birds called garuda. It generates flames that scorch the sinful, and it gives its name to the fiery halo surrounding Acala, the fierce-eyed Buddhist god that smites the wicked. Karura are a stock character in gigaku plays, and are believed to be a prototype for the depictions of tengu (see Tengu#Origin).

Name Origin

• "Flengu" might be a contraction of flame tengu, which is also the meaning of his Japanese name (Japanese: 炎天狗, Homura Tengu).
