Trivia

"Belfree" is a corruption of the word belfry (a church tower where bells are hung). Belfries are often associated with bats, as they are found there in places of seclusion, hence the phrase bats in the belfry. This is also a clever concept of the Yo-kai, as bats in the belfry can refer to to someone who is insane or has lost their mind due to loneliness or solidarity, which Belfree (its associated family line Hidabat and Abodabat and bats in general) prefer a secluded lifestyle.

"Yadokoumori" is a portmanteau of yadokari (hermit crab, written literally as "house borrower") and koumori (bat). Hermit crabs live in vacant shells left behind by various shelled beings and switch shells when they grow out their current shell, which Belfree reflects in it's habit to switch houses.
