Part 1: Komasan in the City: The Turnstile
Komasan is writing a letter to his mom about one of his adventures in the city. He and Komajiro are standing in front of a turnstile, which Komajiro is curious about. When Komajiro asks Komasan about the turnstile, Komasan tells a total lie, pretending to know what it is and how it works. But when he actually tries to go through it, it slams shut on him!
Komasan thinks the turnstile is out to get him, and that it can tell he’s a country boy. While Komasan is despairing over his defeat at the hands of the “evil” turnstile, Komajiro realizes all you need to get through the turnstile is a pass. Komasan tries to stop him as he goes through, thinking that the same fate will befall his little brother, but Komajiro just walks right on through without any problems.
Despite his relief at realizing the turnstile can’t tell the difference between city and country folk, Komasan immediately tells another lie and says his Easypass is inside his body. However, when he tries to chase after Komajiro, the turnstile slams in his face again. Maybe Komasan should ease up on the fibbing…
Yo-kai Spenp
Nate, Bear, and Eddie are on their way to the mall to pick up the oddly familiar-sounding game “Yo-lo Watch 2.” Their goal is to grab the game, and then go straight back home. That’s not how things play out however, as Bear is suddenly compelled to buy a huge fish for seemingly no reason. When Nate reminds him about the game, Bear suddenly realizes what he’s done and regrets his fishy purchase. Before Nate has even realized it, Eddie has decided to purchase some completely useless drinking straws.
Nate sees a pattern here and suspects a Yo-kai is at work. Whisper tries to chide him for always blaming everything on Yo-kai, but Nate is nowhere to be found… because he’s off buying toilet paper!? After Nate comes to his senses he swears to find the Yo-kai responsible for this mess. Eddie’s been inspirited again which gives Nate his chance to finally use the Yo-kai Watch to uncover the culprit.
The Yo-kai behind the gang’s reckless spending turns out to be Spenp, an odd cross between a clam and a coin purse. Nate’s too late to stop it though, as Eddie has already bought himself a brand new totem pole. Moments later, Bear is inspirited too, and purchases a “triple potato scrubber brush.” Before long, Eddie and Bear are completely out of money, and looking pretty hopeless too.
Nate asks Spenp why he’s making everyone waste their money, but instead of giving an answer, Spenp rambles on about financial success and how money makes the world go around. Fortunately, Whisper sheds some light on the situation and reveals that Spenp originated during a period of affluence in the 1980s when people spent money frivolously. Spenp believes that when people spend money it helps the overall economy, but Nate points out that if you spend your money carelessly, you won’t have any left over for the things you really want. Spenp doesn’t seem to care, though.
Either way, Bear and Eddie are completely broke and they can’t afford Yo-lo Watch 2 now. However, their reckless purchases from earlier did net them a few raffle tickets, so Nate suggests they attend the raffle drawing. When they do, they win third prize—a copy of Yo-lo Watch 2! Somehow, everything worked out in the end. Later, as Nate and his buddies are leaving the mall, Spenp shows up to give Nate his Yo-kai Medal, before zooming back into the mall to make more people waste their money.
Yo-kai Noway
Another day at school, and it looks like Katie is planning a barbeque later in the week. Nate wishes to himself that Katie would invite him. When she asks Nate though, he flatly replies with “No way.” That’s not what Nate wanted to say, but every time Katie asks him, he just keeps saying “no way.” When Bear and Eddie come to ask him why he’s not going to Katie’s barbeque, Nate replies to everything with “no way!” much to Nate’s internal distress.
Nate hurries out of the classroom while covering his mouth, realizing that it’s got to be a Yo-kai forcing him to say “no way” to every question. Just then, a teacher shows up and asks Nate to help out with carrying some books, but Nate says “no way” again! Nate dashes away to the school roof before he can refuse anyone else. On the roof, Whisper once again rebukes Nate for writing off every problem as the work of a Yo-kai. Determined, Nate uses the Yo-kai Watch which reveals a wall-shaped Yo-kai! But when Nate tries to ask Whisper about it, Whisper just says “no way!”
Nate grabs the Yo-kai Pad which tells him that he’s dealing with Noway, a Yo-kai that makes you say “no” to everything by turning people down in an irritating way. Nate pleads with Noway to stop, but of course the answer is “No way.” When Nate asks Whisper to help, he gets rejected once more. Realizing he needs another Yo-kai to deal with Noway, Nate summons Tattletell because she only says “tell” when she talks so Nate thinks that Noway can’t make her refuse. Much to Nate’s dismay, Noway does in fact make Tattletell say “no way.”
Next up is Blazion who clashes mightily with Noway, but even Blazion’s burning spirit isn’t enough to put a stop to Noway. After a bit of a fuss with Whisper, Nate says “Whatever, don’t help!” to Whisper, which immediately makes Whisper spring into action and scold Noway. Realizing that reverse psychology is the key to winning, Nate whips out Jibanyan.
Like he did with Whisper earlier, Nate tells Jibanyan NOT to fight with Noway and certainly DON’T use Paws of Fury. Of course, Jibanyan unleashes a flurry of punches on Noway. Following up quickly, Nate ask Noway NOT to become friends with him… which immediately nets him Noway’s Yo-kai Medal!
Later, after Katie’s barbeque, Nate is chilling out in his room, when his mom walks in and tells him to clean up! Nate starts to say “No…” but catches himself before he finishes. There are some people you just can’t say “no way” to!
Manjimutt: The Great Dog Escape: Catch & Release
This short isn’t really so much an episode as it is a trailer for an in-universe movie starring Manjimutt. Manjimutt is locked up on a prison island in the middle of the ocean. He sees a bird in his jail cell window which inspires him to break free. Later we see Manjimutt running from the guards. Will Manjimutt escape?
