Komasan is the top cop at the station, but he swears it’s beginner’s luck. Whisper really
wants to take credit for Komasan’s ability even though he is the worst performing officer on the
bar graph. He thinks Komasan just happens to nab all the weak criminals, but Whisper plans to
really test Komasan’s worth on a stakeout. This leads them hiding being a pole next to a
playground across the street from a small apartment building where a bank robber lives. At least
according to Whisper. Komasan thinks it would be best to go talk to him. Because if there’s a
bank robber, they should catch him. But Whisper explains they need to catch him red-handed
so they have enough evidence to put the robber away.

Whisper explains stakeout at length, explaining they are a test of patience. While he was
talking, though, the junior detective pitched a conspicuous tent to camp out in. After night falls,
Whisper is talking to himself about the ideal kind of stakeout meal: simple and cheap. But
Komasan is making a stew over his campfire off-screen. When the ghost checks to see if
Komasan is handling boredom well, he noticed for the first time that Komasan is hosting a
campfire sing-along with five random strangers. He just naturally does the opposite of Whisper’s
plan.

After the campfire goes out, Whisper asks him if he really understands what a stakeout
is. He begins to begin another long-winded explanation, but Komasan begins to doze off.
Whisper says they should sleep in shifts, so Komasan goes right to sleep in his tent. Whisper is
mad at first, but realized he was hoping to hijack all the glory of a major arrest anyway. But he
suddenly experiences some tummy troubles. The milk he was drinking earlier was actually
spoiled. Like sleeping, stakeout partners should use the bathroom in turns, but Komasan is
already sleeping and Whisper is in desperate need of a bathroom. Komasan won’t wake up, so
Whisper just flies over to the bathroom. While the senior detective is busy, Komasan wakes up
because he, too, needs to use the bathroom. So he walks sleepily up the apartment he’s staking
out and rings the doorbell. A man answers and Komasan asks him politely to use his bathroom.
Whisper returns just in time to see his partner enter the apartment.

Komasan relieves himself and thanks the bank robber when he notices a heavy-looking
metal briefcase. He starts to ask about it when Whisper barges in to scold him. Whisper just
screams and shouts while the robber slinks away with the money in the briefcase. Whisper
barely even notices when Komasan accidentally knocks the robber over and reveals the
briefcase is full of cash. Komasan notices the evidence, and he’s standing right next to the
suspect, so he cuffs him without delay.

Whisper can’t believe that Komasan is just better at this than he is and wishes for a
really hard-to- catch criminal.

At the start of a new semester for Keita, Whisper is abuzz with hope. He vows to
continue being a perfect yo-kai butler as his charge embarks on a new round of studies. But
Keita is ready to point out that Whisper is actually not good at it anyway. Keita enters his
homeroom to see Kuma and Kanchi already catching up. Kuma brags that he went to the
beach and got a very slight tan. Kanchi boasts that his amazing break came with video games
and air conditioning. Fumika appears to do the same thing. She got shaved ice and her tongue
turned blue. None of Keita’s friends did anything amazing, but they all insist they did. Keita
knows it’s a yo-kai. It just is.

This yo-kai is an old man who loves to praise himself. Papa Windbag brags about
bragging. Keita tells this new yo-kai to cut it out, but instead of quitting, he runs out of the
classroom and gets himself cornered. But Papa Windbag saves himself by inspiriting Whisper
and Jibanyan. Whisper brags about swipe speed and Jibanyan brags about licking chocolate
off his mouth. Keita thinks about how little he cares about the things Papa Windbag has people
brag about. His solution is to summon Boyclops, Lady Longnek and Pallysol.

They challenge Windbag by one-upping him and then each other. If he wakes up at 4
a.m., Boyclops gets up at 3:59, Lady Longnek is up at 3:58 and Pallysol is up at 3:57. And then
they start the cycle again without Papa Windbag. When Papa Windbag says his morning
exercise is the best, he can’t predict that Pallysol is going to say he swims to America and back
every morning. They win by telling impossibly large lies that Papa Windbag can’t keep up with,
but they start doing it just for fun at Keita’s expense. Probably for the rest of the day.

"Which Is the Real One!?"
Keita has been assigned a research project on the kappa myth. He’s lucky to get any
school assignment on yo-kai since he knows so many personally, so he decides he should just
ask Walkappa anything he might want to know. Walkappa seems excited to see Keita and he
even cries when he learns Keita is visiting to give him special recognition. But another kappa
appears, the very authentic-looking Faux Kappa. He’s a quintessential, classic kappa. Because
Whisper is in love with authority, he introduces Walkappa as a knock-off kappa, which hurts.
Keita jumps to his defense immediately, characterizing him as the real modern kappa.

Faux Kappa takes this as an opportunity to challenge his blue counterpart to a kappa
contest. The first part is a swimming test. Walkappa knows all the different strokes, but Faux
Kappa is faster. Whisper reads that real kappa only use the breaststroke. Kappa are supposed
to like only cucumbers, but Walkappa likes sushi. But when presented with a cucumber, he
chomps sadly on it so he looks more real. Kappa are supposed to be good at sumo wrestling,
and Faux Kappa even tells Walkappa that, if Walkappa can win, he will be recognized as the
real deal. It looks hopeless though.

Faux Kappa pushes his opponent to the edge of the ring, but begins to dry out at the
vital moment. Walkappa takes advantage of this lapse because he likes to walk around in the
sun anyway, so he wears sunscreen and moisturizing lotion on his head specifically so he won’t
dry out. He wins this time because he isn’t a super traditional kappa. The two duck-faced yo-kai
shake webbed hands as a sign of respect, and Faux Kappa presents Keita his classic medal.

On the day of the presentation, Keita slides in some facts about yo-kai that look like
classic kappa, but act different than you might expect by swimming freestyle and eating sushi.
Walkappa watches this presentation from the window. The whole class busts out laughing at the
parts about him though. Despite proving his kappaness, he isn’t always recognized.
