  • You can press X to speed up battles.
  • Know the different types of Food and the shops that sell them.
  • Use the stylus to track a hidden Yo-kai.
  • You can use items at the very start of a battle instead of just hitting the fight button. Use this to feature to feed enemies for increased befriend rates, or buff your own Yo-kai with talismans.
  • Snartle, the demon that attacks you for failing to use the crosswalk button, gets stronger the higher your watch rank is. If you plan to catch him, you might consider trying to beat him earlier rather than later. (His favorite food is meat). Alternatively there is a weaker version post-game that you can catch but he's a bit harder to find.
  • Draggie, a yo-kai you get near the end of the game, has an ability that lets your entire team gain more experience. If you evolve him he loses this ability and you can't get another until the post-game Infinite Inferno. So if you want to use him for training hold off on evolving him.
  • Players can feed Yo-kai on the enemy team once per battle. So if there are two Yo-kai you want on the enemy team you can feed both of them to increase your befriend chances.
  • Betterfly and Appak are 2 other good Rank A Yo-kai players can obtain early in battle. Betterfly can be obtained through by fusing 2 Enerfly while Appak is evolved from Walkappa at level 32.
  • Understand Attitude for building stats, if you're planning to bring a Yo-kai in your team permanently, get them the book they need ASAP, and use it as early as possible.
  • When you're purifying the inspirit that locks your Yo-kai in a glass orb: tap around on it in different areas until you hear the tapping make a different noise. If you hit the weak spot you can purify the inspirit much faster.
  • Snartle immediately focuses his attacks on whatever Yo-kai is using their Soultimate. When fighting him, heal up before using a Soultimate.
  • When fusing 2 Yo-kai, the level of the resultant Yo-kai is the levels of the 2 parent Yo-kai added together then divided by 2.
  • Don't waste your A Serious Life books on anything besides the Yo-kai you're planning to keep on your team, because those things cost $250 each.
  • Don't forget to save the game frequently! There are times when you will be surprised by any number of ridiculous things that happen when dealing with spirits from the underworld. You might end up missing out on opportunities you couldn't have predicted or get completely destroyed by a powerful encounter, and the game will only warn you about some of them.
  • Requests (side quests) might seem silly or time consuming sometimes, but they also usually have exclusive item rewards, free recruits, and are the only way to unlock some essential game features. Take the time to goof off, because the main storyline can wait. In fact, during the summer festival, time is frozen, so you can even use this to your advantage for extended night excursions.
  • Favorite food not only affect your capture rates, but your own Yo-kai's heal and Soul Meter restoration. Learn what your Yokai like, then keep a stack of those on hand for when you run into tough battles.
  • You may already know about the Snartle that attacks if you jaywalk in the crosswalk five times, but if you're behaving nicely instead and following the rules consistently, sometimes an item will drop when you complete a crossing successfully (music note bubble). Alternatively, you don't really have to care about crosswalks at all as long as you avoid touching both sides consecutively.
