Komasan in the City: DJKJ
In his usual letter home, Komasan writes that he’s much more comfortable living in the city than he’s ever been, but there’s one problem that he has. That problem shows itself when Komajiro answers his phone using slang and language Komasan can’t begin to understand. Komajiro hangs up and tells his older brother he’s going out with friends. This prompts the older cat to ask where Komajiro goes all the time. The younger Koma describes a nightclub, where there are beautiful lights and everyone dances to wonderful music. That description tricks Komasan into thinking it’s like a festival from back home, so he feels like he knows what he’s in for. Komasan’s pretend worliness impresses his kid brother, and they decide Komasan should come along this time and meet all of Komajiro’s friends.
When they get there, it’s obviously not what Komasan thought. He’s standing at the edge of a dance floor in a dark room playing “Thriller”-sounding music in complete shock. Komajiro has undergone a costume change and is now wearing a t-shirt, sideways baseball cap, gold chain and shades indoors at night. And a young man approaches him, calling him “KJ.” Komasan asks who that is, and it turns out to be Komajiro’s nickname. Suddenly, a woman leaps onto KJ and embraces him. She spooks Komasan with her speed and Komajiro introduces her as his girlfriend. She recognized Komasan as her boyfriend’s big brother, and Komasan bows politely. The cool kids head to the VIP room, leaving Komajiro alone on the dancefloor, worrying about how ”the big city is starting to change Komajiro.”
Yo-kai Sproink
Nate is soaking in a hot spring with his friends Eddie and Bear. They’re having a great time, but Nate notices the water is just a bit too hot. A distraction bubbles up from the water, and it’s Whisper whose dream it is to teach Nate hot spring etiquette. Nate sinks down and begins to follow Whisper’s instructions but turns lobster red and bails. At the same time, Bear and Eddie get out because they’re woozy and lightheaded. Nate feels like too many people got the same ailment all at once, so he diagnoses the hot spring with a yo-kai. Whisper insists that he’s never heard of a yo-kai who makes bathers dizzy, but Nate finds one. He’s an enormous pink pig with diving goggles and a towel around his neck named Sproink. Whenever he wants to turn the heat in the pool up, he claps two wooden buckets together, and makes the spring too hot even for Whisper. The pig mentions that he is so comfortable, he might just have to hang out for a while, but Nate thinks it’s not fair for him for force people out of the spring for his own comfort. Sproink tells him directly, “if you want me to get out of this pool, you’re going to have to make me get out of this pool.”
Nate figures the best yo-kai he knows to take up that challenge is Blazion because “he’s literally on fire.” Blazion dives right in and bounces immediately back out, vomiting water like a lion-shaped fountain. The lion isn’t happy about being inspirited, and his burning rage steams up the room, pleasing Sproink even more. Nate’s second choice is Roughraff. When the delinquent reptile shows up, he backs off. He takes his time showering off before getting in the spring and limbering up with a long stretch routine. He finally gets up to the edge of the pool, but stalls until Whisper pushes him in. Roughraff can’t take it, and makes a fuss. He’s so loud, Sproink whacks both Roughraff and Whisper on the head with his buckets. Nate gives up hope. But then, unrelated to the fight, it looks like lava is being poured into the pool. Glowing red water is flowing from a tap and even making Sproink nauseous. There’s an old man over in the corner who insists on the hottest possible water because he’s just so cold. The boiling, magma-colored water causes Sproink to just disappear. But now nobody can get into the springs with that old guy, so Nate decides to try the sauna instead.
Yo-kai Babblong
Nate seriously has to pee. He’s really in a hurry to get out of class, and the bell rings. He figures he’s in the clear, but Mr. Johnson launches into a story about his Uncle Murph. He’s just talking and talking and talking. He can’t stop. Katie raises her hand and points out that he should dismiss class because the bell rang. He let’s class out but then keeps talking. Just rambling. He goes on for an unknown length of time. But Nate did make it to the bathroom eventually. When he walks back into the hall, Katie stops him because she wants to talk. She starts normal, but then goes limp for a second before embarking on a story about her Aunt Mabel. She is just going on when Nate decides it’s definitely a yo-kai. A bird-like,bright yellow yo-kai with a nose and voice like Jimmy Durante named Babblong. He makes people tell long and uninteresting stories. The camera zooms way in on Whisper’s face as he explains that Babblong is more powerful than ever because of social media, and he can inspirit people into writing long uninteresting statuses.
Babblong’s terrible curse is even eating into Nate’s crush on Katie. Whisper has no patience, and chases Babblong down the hall screaming and waving a beating fan. He flew all the way outside until he ran out of stamina and fell to the ground. Nate caught up and wastes no time calling Jibanyan for help. At least he doesn’t waste any time until Babblong inspirits him, and he can’t finish the summoning process. Nate keeps interrupting himself with inane stories. Across town, Jibanyan recognizes the portal he usually travels through, but he can’t come through until Nate finishes. So he just waits at home for Nate to call him. He waits until he can’t wait any longer, and he just runs to Nate’s location. Nate figures out exactly what they need to do to stop Babblong. He tries to summon Wazzat to make Babblong forget to inspirit people, but he get blocked again. He just blabs on about his Uncle Lester. Whisper does his duty as butler for his master, and tries to use the watch for Nate, but the watch refuses. Same thing for Jibanyan. But the cat has an idea. He writes the words out on a notepad hoping Nate will read them and accidentally activate the medal already in the watch. The plan works. Wazzat comes on and inspirits Babblong who forgot what he was going to say. But the next day, Babblong is waiting in front of Nate’s house with a bunch of new uncle stories.
Manjimutt: The Great [Dog] Escape: Episode 4
Manjimutt is still wasting away in prison. He’s eating one day when another prisoner offers his apple. Manjimutt decides to trade his bread, and thinks that this person is someone he can share all his thoughts with. The blond prisoner asks what Manjimutt thinks the most important thing is for their survival. He leans in and says their friendship is the most important thing, and that he will kill the human faced dog if he ever betrays their friendship. He claims to only be kidding and laughs it off creepily. While this is going on, a prisoner named Gonzales with scars on his face approaches Manjimutt with probably nasty intentions.
