Komasan in Love Episode 4
After another brief recap of Komasan’s romantic adventures, we see Komajiro walking home from the grocery store. He spots his brother Komasan reading comics in a bookstore and goes to see what’s up, but Komasan quickly tries to hide what he was reading. Komajiro catches on quick though, and realizes he’s reading comics by the girl from the café. Komasan is understandably embarrassed but Komajiro is impressed at how far Komasan is going to get to know his romantic interest. Komajiro suggests that Komasan and his potential girlfriend could work on comics together, but Komasan isn’t so sure about that. He’s certain that a human girl could never fall in love with a Yo-kai like him. Ever the optimist, Komajiro encourages him to just give it a try anyway and trust in himself.
Heading over to the café, Komajiro suggests that Komasan use the Changeling Leaf to imitate a human. Komasan is hesitant but transforms anyway and goes inside the café. There he is shocked to find the young lady crying over her manuscript. Concerned, Komasan checks to make sure she’s OK. It turns out that her publisher rejected her second Yo-kai comic, saying nobody believes in Yo-kai any more. At a loss, she feels like her life is collapsing and she has no idea what to do with herself. Komasan feels like he shouldn’t reveal his Yo-kai identity just yet, but perhaps there’s some other way he can support her while maintaining his human form.
Yo-kai Tengloom
The gang is out in the forest today, having science class outside. Nate thinks he’s gonna find something rare, but Katie blows him off again, calling him “average.” This just makes Nate even more determined to find something rare. Nate comes to a clearing where an odd purple wind seems to be blowing and he feels like something is a bit unusual.
Nate remarks on the wind, and Whisper suggests that a tengu Yo-kai could be present. Whisper claims he is well-acquainted with Tengu, before relating the ancient Japanese legends about how Tengu can control wind with his fan, and has a large red nose. Whisper claims he and Tengu are long-time friends, but Nate and Jibanyan are skeptical about that. Nate’s friends show up again to ask him if he’s found anything, but that odd purple wind from before appears and blows across them. Suddenly, Katie, Bear, and Eddie suddenly seem very gloomy and depressed. Nate knows there’s a Yo-kai and it doesn’t take him long to find Tengloom, a tengu Yo-kai, but not the Tengu that Whisper knows.
Tengloom’s power involves controlling apathy and despair, as evidenced by the gloomy mood hanging over Nate’s friends. The only way to counter his powers is to make Tengloom smile, so Nate asks Jibanyan to do something about it. But before Jibanyan can, Tengloom fans him with his winds of despair, making Jibanyan depressed too. Nate asks Whisper for help but Whisper gets hit with the purple wind too! With all his friends too gloomy to help out, Nate’s gotta summon some Yo-kai to get everyone back to normal so he summons Wiglin, Steppa, and Rhyth to get Tengloom to grin. The seaweed trio busts out some hot dance moves, but it doesn’t seem to work at all on Tengloom. Nate manages to get Whisper and Jibanyan to help out with dancing even though they’re still gloomy, but it’s still not enough to make Tengloom smile.
Whisper suggests they try “sushi roulette”, a game in which everyone eats a piece of sushi, but one piece has a big glob of spicy wasabi, so somebody gets a spicy surprise. However, Jibanyan spiked all the sushi with wasabi, resulting in everyone doing a spit-take. At long last, Tengloom cracks a faint smile, which turns Whisper and Jibanyan back to normal. But… Nate’s human friends haven’t gone back to normal yet.
To fix that, Nate and the Yo-kai have a “party”, hoisting Tengloom up on a platform and preparing to carry him down a long set of stairs. However, Nate slips and everybody goes tumbling down the stairs before landing in a huge crash. Their plan may have failed, but Tengloom smiles in amusement at their predicament, releasing Nate’s friends from their depression. Before he leaves, Tengloom leaves Nate his Yo-kai Medal.
The Real One
Continuing this episode’s tengu-themed adventures, this time Nate’s walking down the beachside boardwalk with his usual Yo-kai buddies… and Tengloom’s tagging along too. Nate’s still skeptical about Whisper being childhood friends with the real tengu Yo-kai, but suddenly a huge blast of wind blows all the umbrellas on the boardwalk away. Seems like a real tengu might be nearby! Nate uses the Yo-kai Watch, which reveals the real Tengu at last!
Nate asks Whisper if he’ll go ask Tengu to calm down, to which Whisper nervously agrees. Whisper seems to be trying his hardest to convince Tengu, but when Nate gets a bit closer, he realizes Whisper is just trying to flatter Tengu. Tengu reveals he doesn’t even know Whisper… to nobody’s surprise.
Sick of Whisper’s flattery, Tengu blasts Whisper into the air with his fan, which sends the ghostly butler flying into a tree. Looks like Whisper needs to cut back on the lying a little bit.
