Part 1: The New Yo-kai Watch
Late in the evening, Nate comes down from his room to find his dad watching an announcement for a new mobile phone. After watching for a few moments, Nate hears Whisper shouting from upstairs so he goes to see what’s up, where he discovers that Whisper is excitedly watching a similar announcement happening in the Yo-kai World. Steve Jaws, a shark Yo-kai who bears a striking resemblance to a certain real-world technology entrepreneur, is announcing a new Yo-kai Watch.
The prospect of a brand-new Yo-kai Watch grabs Nate’s attention, but Whisper is absolutely bouncing off the walls with excitement over the new product. Steve Jaws continues, revealing that the new Yo-kai Watch is the Yo-kai Watch Type Zero. Explaining that there was only one original Yo-kai Watch made, Steve Jaws was able to use modern techniques to create the mass- produced Type Zero model. On top of that, the Type Zero includes numerous features and improvements over the original model.
Steve also reveals that the new Yo-kai Watch will be sold immediately, and much to Nate’s surprise Whisper is already packed and ready to get in line. In the dead of night, the two set off for the Yo-kai World by summoning Mirapo to transport them there. They wind up right in the middle of the Yo-kai City, and while Nate is marveling at the scenery, Whisper is freaking out because they’ve shown up too late to get a good place in line to buy the new Yo-kai Watch. Now there’s a huge line of Yo-kai waiting to grab a watch—and Nate spots some very familiar tails at the front of the line.
Jibanyan is the very first in line to get the new Yo-kai Watch—despite being a cat, he believes in “the early bird gets the worm”, and got in line way before the new watch was even announced. After Jibanyan points out that if they don’t hurry and get in line there won’t be any watches left, Whisper and Nate hurry to line up. The duo spot all sorts of Yo-kai they’ve seen throughout their adventures also lined up, such as Komasan and his brother Komajiro. Once again, Komasan is trying to get used to city life, but Komajiro is one step ahead of him as usual.
Later, Nate spots something that surprises him—his own closet is sitting in line! Even Hidabat is in line for a Yo-kai Watch Type Zero, and it brought Nate’s closet with him! Nate encounters more and more of his Yo-kai friends as he proceeds to the end of the line, where he and Whisper encounter K’mon-K’mon, an angel-like Yo-kai that hates waiting in lines. K’mon-K’mon goes on a rampage and starts knocking everybody out of line, so Nate decides it’s time to summon a Yo-kai to stop him. He pops in Jibanyan’s Yo-kai Medal, which warps Jibanyan from the front of the line all the way to the back of the line!
When Jibanyan realizes he’s lost his place in line he is enraged and assaults Nate and Whisper with a flurry of punches, then takes off running and crashes into K’mon-K’mon in the process. With that problem more or less handled, later on we see Whisper and Nate finally walking out of the store with a brand new Yo-kai Watch, neatly boxed and bagged. Whisper wants to carefully take the new watch home before opening it, but to his horror Nate is shaking the box all over the place. Whisper gives Nate a stern scolding and the two head home.
Part 2: The Unboxing
Picking up from the previous episode, Nate and Whisper are finally back at home with the new Yo- kai Watch. Whisper tells Nate to wash his hands first before opening the box—but Nate’s already having fun and is shaking the box with his dirty hands. Whisper chastises him and has him wash his hands until they are sparkling clean.
With clean hands, Nate is ready to finally open the box. Whisper insists on opening the box properly and “sharing the feeling”, but Nate just shakes the box until the watch drops out on the floor. Whisper freaks out once again before carefully putting the watch back in the box. Whisper likens the new Yo-kai Watch to a brand new car where you shouldn’t take the plastic off the seats right away—but Nate rips the plastic off the new Yo-kai Watch anyway. Nate even threw away the box and bag already, to Whisper’s distress.
With the watch finally out of the box, it’s time to read the manual—well, Whisper wants to read the manual, but Nate is just fiddling with the watch. It doesn’t seem to turn on which makes Whisper think they’ve come home with a dud that they’ll have to take back to the store. Fortunately, Nate realizes it just needs a battery. With the batteries in place, Nate’s excited to try summoning a Yo-kai with the new watch, so he pops in Jibanyan’s medal. But nothing happens, and it seems the new Yo-kai Watch needs corresponding new Yo-kai Medals.
It turns out that Yo-kai Medals are sort of like licenses or identification for Yo-kai, and the new watch can only be used with a new type of medal. Nate frets that he won’t be able to summon Jibanyan or his other Yo-kai, but Jibanyan shows up with a new set of Yo-kai Medals. Ready to give his new Watch a proper try, Nate pops Jibanyan’s new medal into the Yo-kai Watch Type Zero and summons him—which sends Jibanyan flying into the ceiling.
Whisper begs Nate to let him see the watch, and when Nate won’t let him he gets angry and bites onto Nate’s arm. Suddenly a bright white light comes from Whisper, and the Type Zero watch has disappeared when he lets go of Nate’s hand. Confused, Nate and Whisper wonder what’s going on, before Nate jams his hand back into Whisper’s mouth—and the Type Zero watch comes back. Nate learns that he can swap the two watches by putting them inside of Whisper’s mouth! This seems to be a little unpleasant for poor Whisper, though.
