Aside from unities (+5% Stat bonus to your team for each Yo-Kai of the same tribe), the tribe of the Yo-Kai on your team has no effect on the team members' Attack, attack's damage, or Soultimate damage.
An attack from a Yo-Kai directed towards a Yo-Kai that has a disadvantageous matchup against it, such as a Shady Yo-Kai's attack on a Brave Yo-Kai, will deal 20% more damage.
Likewise, an attack from a Yo-Kai towards a Yo-Kai that has an advantageous matchup against it, such as a Shady Yo-Kai's attack on a Heartful Yo-Kai, deals 20% less damage.
A Yo-Kai's Attack stat not only influences the damage of a popped wib wob, but also its Soultimate. Tribe unities, which increase both Attack and HP, will increase Soultimate damage.
So what does this mean? First, utilize tribe unities for an easy, passive, accross the board increase to HP and damage. Second, if you're having trouble with a stage, check to make sure you don't have any disadvantageous matchups. Finally, when selecting a stage to farm on, make sure you are fighting a Yo-Kai your team has an advantageous matchup against. For example, if you have a brave team, I highly recommend Frostail.
