Part 1: Yo-kai Folk Tales: Princess Kaguya
Nate and his buddies are having some fun playing soccer at the playground when their ball accidentally gets kicked into some bushes. Komasan and Nate run to go grab the ball, and they bump into a nice old lady sitting on her back porch. Nate notices she’s got a book about the story of Princess Kaguya, and the old lady offers to tell them the story.
Komasan wants to hear it but Nate seems a bit hesitant—but the old lady asserts that there’s a tale of Princess Kaguya that has never been told before, and launches straight into the story. The story begins the same way the traditional folktale of Princess Kaguya does, with an old man and woman living together in ancient Japan.
At this point, the main characters of the show are inserted into the story. The old man (played by both Nate and Jibanyan, strangely) finds a glowing bamboo tree and decides to cut it open to see what’s inside it. They cut it open and find Kaguya inside (who is played by Whisper.) However, Jibanyan was a little overzealous, and accidentally cuts Whisper in half. That’s obviously not how the story goes, so they have to do a few more “takes” to get the story right.
Eventually they stop cutting poor Whisper in half, and the story continues. The old man and woman raised the baby girl, who grew up into a beautiful young woman named Princess Kaguya. Kaguya reveals to the elderly couple one day that she is actually from the moon. At this point Nate interrupts, saying he already knows what happens--the old man and woman try and keep Kaguya, but she ends up going back to the moon.
However, the story doesn’t go quite that way. When Kaguya confesses she must return to the moon, the old woman (played by Komasan) suddenly produces… an astronaut helmet. The old man (Jibanyan) throws the helmet at her, telling her to become an astronaut to go back to the moon. Continuing this bizarre shift in the story, Kaguya went to the Johnson Space Center to train to become an astronaut. There, Kaguya underwent intense astronaut training to be able to ride a rocket into space and return to the moon. Finally, Kaguya rode in a space rocket to go back to the moon… and they all lived happily ever after. Nate knows the story was completely wrong, but at least Komasan enjoyed it!
Part 2: Yo-kai Gutsy Bones
Nate is testing his luck on a capsule toy machine. He wants the super-rare figure of his favorite character, and it looks like he’ll be able to get it easily, since it’s sitting towards the bottom of the capsule machine. His luck isn’t very good though, as he tries 3 times in a row but fails to get the rare figure. Blaming his bad luck on a Yo-kai, Nate uses the Watch to expose Gutsy Bones, a giant skeleton Yo-kai that controls all of the capsule toy machines.
Nate tells Gutsy that he really wants the rare figure, so Gutsy challenges him to a battle. If Nate wins, he gets the figure. Before they even know what happened, Nate, Jibanyan, and Whisper are transported to a sinister otherworldly realm. Whisper points out the massive capsule machine engulfed in fire, and then Gutsy Bones reappears once again.
Since Gutsy is a Yo-kai that controls capsule toy machines, it’s only natural a duel with him would involve a capsule toy machine. The rules of the duel are that Gutsy will put one coin into the machine at a time, and if Nate is lucky, the super rare figure will pop out. However, there’s a catch—each coin costs something that is important. The first coin results in a miss, and Whisper loses the top of his head.
The second coin results in another junk item, and this time the loss is not quite so obvious—Jibanyan has lost his cute manner of speaking. This continues for some time, with the trio losing more and more things—Whisper turns into a tiny ball, Jibanyan loses more of his signature verbal tics, and Nate becomes very short.
Eventually, they get down to just 3 more capsules, and Nate is sure that they can win now. Gutsy says he’ll give them everything back if they get the rare prize… but right as he’s putting the coin in, a supply truck shows up and refills the whole machine back to the top, much to Nate’s despair! The episode ends ominously; with the moral of the story being that gambling on luck isn’t a battle that can be won.
Part 3: Yo-kai Furdinand
Nate’s chilling at home watching a soccer game, when his mom notices that his hair has gotten longer. She tells him to go get it cut, so he heads out. But when he gets there, he finds out that there’s a huge line because everyone’s hair is suddenly very long! Bear, Eddie and even Katie are all sporting more hair than usual, and before Nate even realizes it, he’s got a full afro.
Weird stuff happening means a Yo-kai is afoot, and this time it’s the Classic Yo-kai Furdinand, much to the excitement of Whisper. Furdinand is a Yo-kai that makes everyone have thick and luxurious hair. While Whisper is having a fanboy attack over Furdinand, Nate asks Furdinand nicely if he’ll put their hair back to normal. Nate’s request backfires, as Furdinand just makes his afro even bigger.
Nate decides that he needs another Yo-kai to deal with Furdinand, so he calls out to Whisper to swap the Yo-kai watch—however, Whisper refuses to allow Nate to fight with Furdinand. Jamming his hand into Whisper’s mouth by force, Nate swaps to the Type Zero and summons Jibanyan. But Jibanyan doesn’t feel like it, because Furdinand looks “weak” according to him—which draws the ire of Whisper.
While they were busy arguing, Furdinand works his magic on Jibanyan and Jibanyan, granting them luxurious flowing locks. They love their new hair so much that they even decide to change their names, although Nate thinks their new names are silly. Nate obviously can’t rely on either of them, so he calls out Blazion—but this attempt is short lived, as Furdinand gives Blazion a massive fluffy mane of hair.
Nate summons several more Yo-kai, but they all love the luxurious hair that Furdinand grants them, so Nate can’t defeat him. But when it starts to rain, suddenly all of the extra hair just falls out and disappears—it turns out that rain cancels Furdinand’s powers! Nate realizes he might have been a little bit mean to Furdinand, offering him encouragement and telling him that he can make people’s hair grow again when the sun comes out again.
Pleased, Furdinand hands over his Yo-kai Medal—but suddenly a barber grabs him, and starts using him as a mop for the store!
