Gourmet School Lunch: Meal 2 Pudding

It’s the end of lunch, and Nate is ready for pudding. Just as he’s about to peel off the top, he’s inspirited by a long shadow with yellow eyes. The possession gives Nate angular features and a weird manner. He starts on a mature inner-monologue about the importance of truly enjoying pudding. At the same time, Bear wins a four-man rock, paper, scissors match and takes down to prize pudding in a single gulp. Mature gourmet Nate isn’t pleased by Bear’s style. Another boy in the class mixes the pudding up in the cup and eats that, but it also misses the point, according to this Nate.

Nate eats his pudding while he philosophizes on the nature of the dessert. Until he comes down to one last bite. This last bite, to him, is a bittersweet celebration of the dessert experience. When he dramatically spoons the last bite into his mouth, it wiggles free of the spoon and falls to the floor.

He stands and looks out the window while tears roll down his face.

Yo-kai Failian

First thing in the morning at school, Katie tell Nate she’s transferring schools.tomorrow. Nate can’t believe it. Which is good because then Katie does a strange dance and says she’s kidding. Eddie and Bear do the same thing. Jibanyan thinks it could be some kind of fad Nate missed out on.

Later on, the teacher pops a quiz on the class, but he’s kidding too. An announcement comes over the P.A. saying school is cancelled, but it’s followed by the same music that’s been playing after everyone else’s lies. Only on the walk home does Nate decide a yo-kai is making everyone tell these lies. Nate uses the yo-kai watch to reveal a UFO with a skinny green monster wearing sunglasses inside. This creature, Failian, claims to not be a yo-kai but an alien. Whisper is so glad to hear Nate was wrong about the yo-kai until Failian does the “kidding” dance. Nate calls the new yo-kai out to stop the annoying lies. Failian says he’ll stop if Nate can trick him.

Whisper knows what to do. The thinks he can fool Failian by claiming to be an awful butler. The only person he tricked was himself. Failain takes off to inspirit more people. He runs up on a crier at a butcher shop and makes him claim all the meat is free. He hits a cooking show host and a chef. He even inspirits Jibanyan’s favorite idol group. Nate formulates a plan and summons a mystery yo-kai.

While that’s going on Failian gets way out ahead and makes someone lie while they’re announcing the location of the next Olympics. He forces the president of the United States to fake resignation. His last big lie is to have a news anchor report an alien invasion. Failian comes to Nate’s house to pat himself on the back about his great deception. Whisper, Nate and Jibanyan all congratulate him on his lying. Just when Failian is getting cocky though, a flying saucer appears in the sky. They all run into the street to investigate, and a tractor beam scoops Failian up to the ship where he meets an alien. The alien says, in an alien language, that they were looking for him. Failian can’t understand, but the new alien touches him with an E.T. finger to transfer the language over. It ways they’re going home. Failian tries to explain he’s not really an alien as Earth shrinks into the distance in a window.

Failian falls out of his UFO in panic, begging for it to be a trick. It is a trick. Nate used Illoo to catch Failian ages ago, and he’s just waking up from the illusion. Failian surrenders his medal finally, and everyone but him is happy. But, as the screen irises in on the characters, the yo-kai from the next segment, Spoilerina, appears to spoil the next part.

Yo-kai Spoilerina

Nate is excited to see a science fantasy movie. It’s the third of the trilogy where the identity of the big bad is to be revealed. Nate wants to be shocked by this movie, but, as he and his yo-kai pals approach the theater, a pixie-like ballerina blocks their entrance, and Nate recognizes her from the last segment. Nate narrowly avoids being spoiled by covering his ears and screaming. Even though the movie is about to start, he runs away from Spoilerina and away from the theater.

The panicked kid thinks he’ll be safe in a convenience store, but the employee at the counter begins to spoil Nate’s movie under the power of Spoilerina. Nate passes a police officer giving an old lady directions and he suddenly begins to spoil the movie too. Everyone Nate encounters on the street is affected by Spoilerina’s legendary influence.

Whisper finally catches up to his human charge, and Nate confides in him that he’s almost ready to give up. Then he spots Spoilerina, and he sees even his butler is in on it. Nate punches the ghost in the mouth and pulls out the yo-kai watch model zero, which he uses to summon Jibanyan to shut Whisper up with paws of fury. Nate’s grateful but starving from running around all day. His cat friend offers him a chocobar with a spoiler written on it. Nate barely doesn’t read the whole note. With Jibanyan creeping forward like a spoiler zombie, Nate is almost out of options until he remembers Wazzat. If Nate is ever spoiled, he asks Wazzat to just wipe it from his memory. That should be solved, but Wazzat also tries to spoil Nate.

Nate is so desperate to avoid spoilers, he curls up and hides in his closet. Whisper and Jibanyan come home and start to say the spoiler just in case Nate’s in there. He is there, so he stops them. Spoilerina is impressed by his will to go spoiler-free and concede defeat. She presents him her golden medal and promises not to spoil the movie. The three friends decide they can now go to the movie without fear. But, as they prepare to enter the theater again, passersby spoil the movie they just saw very casually. Nate turns completely white and goes completely still.
