I have been reading around about Yo-Kai Watch and it seems like it's getting a lot of hate. I don't understand why it's getting so much. I mean there isn't anything that that's bad about it. I mean I feel like it's getting a bad rep because many people are starting to think that it will be like Pokemon. I don't believe that it will be, which is why I don't understand all the hate. But has anyone else seen anything about Yo-Kai Watch getting hate?

I haven't read this myself. Are you sure it wasn't about the game? It is nothing like Pokemon. I can see certain parts being alike but it is an entirely separate thing. If anything, it is more like digimon lolol

I mean I have also heard some things where people who say that it's too much like Pokemon. I just think that they are generalizing it. I don't get why because I"m sure that they are really looking into the game. If they did look into the game they would see that it's not really like Pokemon.

Yeah, I would assume that she's talking abut the game because that's what I've been hearing about it. Online people think that it's going to be too much like Pokemon because it might kind of have the same gist to it, but I don't think so. Pokemon has animals not characters.

I've seen two main complaints about Yokai Watch. 1) Too much like Pokemon. Which isn't valid aside from a few similarities. It's sad that people are dismissing it as a clone when it's got so much to offer that's different from Pokemon. 2) They "Americanized" the game too much when it was released here. I feel like this is a more valid criticism, since while it's more accessible to children this way it's not cool how they took a game with very Japanese storytelling and characters (I mean, yokai are literally spirits from Japanese folklore) and sucked all the ethnicity out of it.
Even so, I'm tired of hearing so much criticism of it. I'm very attached to the game, and what's done is done so it's best to just enjoy it!

they americanized the game to probably appeal to the largest audience. A lot of kids and even adults cannot relate to or does not want to learn about another culture. I wish they kept the original stuff too

I agree that the game has been far too Americanised. I'm especially disappointed about the Yokai names. For example, Kuchidake-Onna (or mouth-only woman, referring to how the people she Inspirits say but never act) is a pun on the Japanese urban legend, the Kuchisake-Onna, or slit-mouth woman. However its english name is Chatalie, a portmanteau of chat and Natalie. The pun isn't there and its really not the same. Its probably because most Westerners wouldn't be able to relate to and understand the puns. The translation team did a really good job for the others though, like Soultimate (soul+soulmate+ultimate) or Inspirit (inspire+spirit). Overall the game is really good and I love the anime. Looking forward to Ganso and Honke~
