Yo-kai Watch Episode 28 is an episode of Yo-kai Watch Anime. It consists of Part 1: Here Come the Classic Yo-kai, Part 2: Let's Exorcise (Again!) and Part 3: Are They Really Cool? stories.

Part 1: Here Come the Classic Yo-kai

Nate and his buddies are exploring the forest at night as part of a test of courage, when suddenly Nate screams in fear. His friends make fun of him for it, but it turns out that it’s actually Whisper who’s scared and not Nate.

At school the next day, Bear is teasing Nate for his behavior the previous night. His other friends join in the teasing which irritates Nate. So, Nate challenges his friends to go back to the same place that evening for another test of courage, this time courtesy of Nate. After school, Nate’s trying to think of scary Yo-kai to spook his friends with. He also borrowed a book from the library full of pictures of old Yo-kai, but he doesn’t recognize any of them. Whisper does though, and identifies them as “Classic Yo-kai.”

Classic Yo-kai are the celebrity superstars of the Yo-kai World, because they’ve been around for hundreds of years leading to high notoriety among both humans and Yo-kai alike. Nate tries to find some, but has no luck because Classic Yo-kai are very rare. Continuing his search for a Classic Yo- kai, Nate visits an old building way out in the countryside, which has a suspicious purple aura about it.

Whisper detects high levels of Yo-kai energy, and just as Nate is approaching a mysterious glowing pillar, a woman’s voice surprises all of them. The mysterious woman welcomes them as guests, and Nate questions her about the large pillar in the center of the house. The pillar’s been there for over 100 years, and when the woman leaves to check on something, Nate seizes his opportunity to check out the pillar with the Yo-kai Watch. His search reveals three Classic Yo-kai: Lady Longnek, Pallysol, and Boyclops.

Whisper is ecstatic about meeting the trio, but Nate is confused and Jibanyan is outright skeptical. This leads to a fight between Whisper and Jibanyan, but Pallysol breaks the fight up. After a while, Nate asks the three Classic Yo-kai if they will scare his friends for him. Fortunately for Nate, they agree to help him out.

Later that night, Bear and Eddie are walking in the forest again, wondering what Nate’s got in store for them. They happen to spot Lady Longnek with their flashlight, and she extends her neck to scare them. But the two aren’t scared whatsoever! Next up, Boyclops tries to scare them, but the two still aren’t scared.

Finally it’s Pallysol’s turn and predictably Bear and Eddie aren’t scared by him either. Dejected, the Classic Yo-Kai trio has lost all confidence in their scariness. Whisper demands that Nate act scared to bring back their confidence—but even when Nate and Jibanyan act scared, it’s no good. The three Classics reminisce about the old days, and are curious about what scares kids in modern times.

When Nate shows the trio a zombie movie as an example of modern scary things, even the Classic Yo-kai are terrified! Further disheartened, the poor Classic Yo-kai think they can’t possibly match up to what’s scary in modern times. But Whisper gives them a pep talk and the three of them (along with Whisper) resolve to become scarier! For some reason, this translates into baseball practice and intense physical training.

Despite the bizarre training, it pays off. Nate invites Bear and Eddie to the forest again, and this time things are different—the Classic Yo-kai are all at the top of their game, and scare Bear and Eddie so much that they run away screaming! Celebrating a job well done, the trio reveals that it wasn’t Whisper’s weird training that made them scary—they just watched a scary DVD about themselves a million times.

With their newfound scariness, the trio terrorizes anyone who visits that area, and the hill becomes well-known as a scary place for dares. Some time later, the 3 Classic Yo-kai visit Nate to give him their Yo-kai Medals!

Part 2: Let's Exorcise (Again!)

Nate’s just leaving school when he spots Katie—and she’s talking to the exorcist who nearly exorcised Jibanyan and Whisper! Nate asks Katie what’s up, and it turns out that the old man is interested in the hill where the Classic Yo-kai from the last episode are terrorizing people. Nate wastes no time in running to the hill to warn the Classic trio—but they’re not worried, they apparently can’t be exorcised.

Just then, the exorcist shows up and starts his chant. Jibanyan and Whisper start to float away, but true to their word the Classic Yo-kai are unaffected. The Classic trio save Jibanyan and Whisper, but it’s too early to celebrate—the exorcist was just warming up! He sets up a stereo system and starts chanting again, and this time all of the Yo-kai, Classics included, start floating away.

Nate’s gotta do something quick before the Yo-kai are exorcised, so he grabs Whisper and jams his hand in Whisper’s mouth to swap Yo-kai Watches. He quickly summons the three Classic Yo-kai to save them from exorcism—but he forgot to save Jibanyan!

Part 3: Are They Really Cool?

Having apparently saved Jibanyan, the group is back at Nate’s house. The three Classics are bragging about how great they are; Whisper’s totally buying it, but Nate and Jibanyan aren’t. Before long, the three Classics are arguing about who is the most popular. Ms. Longnek apparently got so many love letters it could circle the Earth multiple times; Pallysol got 100 trucks worth of chocolate, and Boyclops claims that when Matthew Perry came to Japan in 1852, the Black Ships were full of his fans.

Meanwhile, Jibanyan’s getting ready to leave— he’s got a Next HarMEOWny concert to visit. When he shows off his fanclub card, even the Classic Yo-kai are amazed that Jibanyan’s got a single-digit fanclub number. Now the Classic trio wants to tag along to the concert but they lack tickets. No problem, Jibanyan’s got extras for them, so Jibanyan and the Classics leave Nate and Whisper behind as they go to the concert, much to Whisper’s dismay.
