Not from what I have noticed. I mean I am watching a walk-through and just started the series last week. I think you will be fine to wait or not. Either choice, you shouldn't have any issues.
Episode 25 spoils a whole chapter of YKW2, but otherwise it's really just the movies that spoil anything major. There are little things in the anime you could consider spoilers, but not really.
It is kind of like Pokemon I would imagine. It plays along the same basis but it is different enough not to make a difference if you were to watch and not play or play and not watch.
